fonts-sil-charis-compact software package provides smart Unicode fonts for Latin and Cyrillic scripts (tight spacing version), you can install in your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install fonts-sil-charis-compact
fonts-sil-charis-compact is installed in your system.
Make ensure the fonts-sil-charis-compact package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep fonts-sil-charis-compact *
You will get with fonts-sil-charis-compact package name, version, architecture and description in a table
